Formation Flying Over West Texas

Here’s a sample of what you will see at our annual AIRSHO.  A flight of T-6 Texans led by a Beech SNB. Local High Sky Wing pilots are:  Sam Strahan in 135, Bill Coombes in 24, James Martin in the Twin Beech, Lance Sommers in 101, and Daniel Rathbun piloting the camera plane, with Parker Rathbun as photographer. Look for these planes in the skies over the Midland-Odessa area during  2018, and during AIRSHO (dates have yet to be determined). In this video they were practicing a banana pass over the Mabee ranch on a “hot and bumpy” day, according to Coombes.

Christmas Night Flights Continue Through Dec 23rd.

Sunday night was busy at the High Sky Wing, with most flights sold out.  There are still some seats available between Dec 19th and 23rd, so call soon to make your reservation (432) 703-3142.

Special thanks to those unsung heroes who fly the plane and work the ramp, enduring the cold and wind to ensure that our customers are well cared for.  Bruce Day gets his usual accolades for climbing up on the T-28 innumerable times for cockpit tours.  His legs will be hurting today 🙂

Nikki Stephens and her family were the first customers on Sunday night.

Christmas Night Flights Kick Off With Media Night

The third annual Christmas Night Flight program got off to a good start last night when reporters from the big three TV networks had the opportunity to fly the evening skies over west Texas.  Their reports go a long way toward making our event a success and we thank them for their participation.

Channels 2 and 9 collaborate on a shot before interviewing HSW Wing Leader Brent Collins.

Navion is chomping at the bit.

Among many other things going on at the Wing yesterday, the Navion was started again after extensive engine repairs.  It appeared to be running fine, but you’ll have to talk to the wrench turners for the “real skinny”.  While Steve Clinton and Mark Haskin had the honor of cranking her up, thanks go to all who put in their time, effort, and sometimes, money to get her this far.
